Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Spring is here.  The sap is ready for collecting and the snow is slowly disappearing.  However, the warmer spring weather still seems to be eluding us. As the weather is changing daily, please continue to have your child dress for the weather.  Extra socks, pants and mittens for puddles and muddy adventures will be very much appreciated as we want our students to enjoy all the fun outdoor activities that each new season brings.  As the weather gets warmer, please remember to follow the school’s dress code which can be found in your child/ren’s agenda.

March saw four of our students compete at the Concours Oratoire at the Board Office.  Our students all did Elgin Market proud.  Alyssa Bale and Avery Chilton demonstrated their amazing oral French language skills in a large group of competitors.  Unfortunately, they did not place in the Junior French Immersion division.  Julianna Rutledge and Morgan Talbot competed in the Impromptu Intermediate French Immersion category.  This category provided for some very interesting speeches and definitely demonstrated how strong the students’ oral French language skills are.  Congratulations go out to Morgan who placed third in the category.

Over the next two weeks, our Science Fair winners will be competing at the Regional Science Fair in Owen Sound.  This week, it will be our Grade 7 and 8 students:  Alyson Carnell, Katelyn Chilton, Elle Cottrill, Taylor Carney, Bennett Ford, Juliana Rutledge, Morgan Talbot and Lauren Williams.  Then, on Wednesday, April 11, our Junior students will compete:  Cameron Carney, Avery Chilton, Pravit Joshi, Ethan Kaminski, Yana Khozikova, Eliot Lunn, Lilly Pace and Aaron Urie.  We wish all our students the best of luck and an enjoyable day!
Over the last months, our sports teams such as the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams have been busy competing at various meets.  Although few games were won, the students demonstrated great skills and wonderful sportsmanship.  This month, it is our choirs’ and band’s turn to shine.  On Monday April 16, all three of our choirs, Primary, Junior and Intermediate, will be competing as part of the Rotary Music Festival at the Walkerton Pentecostal church.  On Tuesday, April 17, the Elgin Market Band will be competing at the Walkerton District Community School.  We look forward to hearing the music from these groups at the spring concert on June 13.

Both our Grade 2 and 4 students will be starting swimming lessons this month.  In addition our Grade 3 students will be completing the Swim to Survive program.  We would like to thank our Home & School Association for supporting this opportunity for our students.

April promises to be a busy month.  We hope that by the end, the flowers will be blooming and the warmer weather will have arrived.
If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the school.
Have an amazing month!
