Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy Spring! With the arrival of spring, we love to enjoy all of the wonderful sights and sounds, even if the weather hasn’t been so cooperative! Believe it or not, we are in our second last month of school and are looking towards a big change in our school community. Our calendar is filling up with numerous events, as it often does at this time of year. Our Celebration of the Arts will start us off with singing, dancing, music and a display of visual arts throughout the school. Our spring Book Fair is happening during that same week and the Bike Rodeo is on May12th. The Fun Fair is a tri-school effort this year, bringing together all of the members of the Kincardine school community! Our Grade 3 students have just finished the
five week Swim to Survive program, which was funded by the Royal Lifesaving Society grant and our most generous Home and School.
The Kincardine schools Transition Team met for their final meeting on April 30th. Several transition activities have been or are in the process of being planned for our students to ensure a smooth and comfortable transition this September. The great ideas and support of this truly collaborative group of volunteers has been very valuable and very much appreciated as we move forward into the transition. More detailed information about planned activities for Elgin Market students is found further on in this newsletter. We will also be sending information home about these upcoming activities. All of the minutes from our Transition Team meetings can be found on our school website: www.emp.bwdsb.on.ca.
Traditionally, May and June are EQAO months in Ontario and our teachers are committed to providing a program that is a sound foundation of skills upon which our students have been building since their entry into school. The EQAO Assessment is no longer considered the “Grade 3 Test”, however it has become a determination of skill levels in Reading, Writing and Mathematics acquired throughout a child’s primary years. Parents of students in Grade 3 will be receiving the results of their child’s assessment next fall. A detailed schedule and further information will be arriving home shortly. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher, or you can find more information about the assessment itself at www.eqao.com.
